Introduction
We as Christians are required to pray and stay in contact with God who has become our Father by His own grace and through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ in His death and resurrection. While there are many types of prayer and examples of prayer to follow, and devotional programs, there is only one Bible that contains the will of God.
Praying to God, using the words of the Bible, is the best way to get God to pay attention to our prayers. God is His own Word.
‘ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. ‘
‘And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. ‘
The Bible contains thousands of promises from God, but the exact number is difficult to determine. The highest estimate is 31,000 depending on how one defines “Biblical promise”. Most sources agree that there are approximately 8,810 promises out of which 7,487 are made to mankind. We can trust God to deliver on His promises, for God is no liar as a man would be.
‘so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. ‘
Therefore, we can fully trust His promises.
APPLICATIONS:
Seek from the Bible the promises of God that speak to our present circumstances, remind God of them and trust that He can deliver according to His promises:
‘ Remember my affliction and my wanderings, the wormwood and the gall! My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me. But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” ‘
